When Dan showed up to go on the Chamna Preserve bike ride on Feb. 6, 2007 he doubled the number present.  The weather was cool but we warmed up very quickly riding  in and along side slightly muddy trails through the trees along the Yakima River.  We saw an eagle trying to soar in the cool air.  There were several other birds which flushed out of the brush and we saw tracks and other deer sign. We proceeded east  then north to cross under the new Highway 240 bridge south of Richland.  Then we proceeded on very rough trail south east to the shores of the Yakima where it joins the Columbia.  The pictures show Dan out on a puddle of ice at the turn around point.  We had to do some extreme bush whacking with the bikes when we lost the trail for  a while.  This was more exercise than we expected but eventually we found the trail and pedalled back to the  car park.  Total distance (riding) about 7.5 miles.  Distance walking (bushwhacking) about 0.5 miles.  Being somewhat tired and hungry we stopped at the Fred Meyer deli for some thick soup.  It was a memorable "ride" for both of us.
