“PRIEST RAPIDS WILDLIFE AREA HIKE.  The hike that was almost flooded out.

Imagine our surprise to find that water covered the mud flats that were really dry when Tom and I walked across them Wednesday afternoon.  After a false start, 17 of us found a way onto the peninsula that makes up part of this area.  We saw a bald eagle, two pelicans floating on the Columbia, a fish head and lots of rocks covered with lichens and moss.  Lots of signs of beaver activity.  We walked about 4.5 miles trying to avoid walking though the worst of the dry tumbleweed and tumble mustard.  The day turned almost sunny and there was little wind.”   Wilma
